2017 won’t happen

2017 n’aura pas lieu est un travail documentaire réalisé à Paris entre l’automne 2016 et le printemps 2017. Une période particulièrement
chargée en réformes sociales et politiques, avec en ligne de mire une élection présidentielle aux résultats incertains et possiblement inquiétants.

Les militants de la mouvance altermondialiste ont connu une année de contestation sans précédent. L’état d’urgence étant en vigueur depuis les attentats du 13 novembre 2015, ces milieux, pourtant sans rapport avec les mouvances islamistes, ont dû faire face à un arsenal coercitif puissant. La surveillance électronique (vidéos, système de reconnaissance faciale, écoutes…) et le fichage ont été largement utilisés à leur encontre. Pour répondre à cette forte répression inédite, cette génération a souhaité s’impliquer par le biais de nouvelles formes d’actions politiques.

De nombreux militants ont décidés de rejoindre les rangs anonymes du « Black Bloc ». C’est autour de cette entité à la fois fascinante dans son organisation et radicale dans ses méthodes que ce projet gravite. En réaction à la guerre des images opposant les forces de polices, les manifestants et les médias. Mais aussi à nos supports de communication qui favorisent principalement la diffusion d’une image unique. J’ai fait le choix d’isoler les éléments pour que le spectateur puisse à partir de ces fragments, synthétiser une image qui lui est propre.

2017 will not take place is a documentary work produced in Paris between autumn 2016 and spring 2017. A particularly challenging period
loaded with social and political reforms, aiming at a presidential election with uncertain and possibly worrying results.

Activists of the altermondialist movement have had an unprecedented year of protest. Since the state of emergency has been in effect following the attacks of 13 November 2015, these milieus, although unrelated to Islamist movements, have had to face a powerful coercive arsenal. Electronic surveillance (videos, facial recognition systems, listening...) and filing have been widely used against them. To respond to this unprecedented strong repression, this generation wanted to get involved through new forms of political action.

Many activists have decided to join the anonymous ranks of the "Black Bloc". It is around this entity, which is both fascinating in its organization and radical in its methods, that this project revolves around. In reaction to the war, images opposing police forces, demonstrators and the media. But also to our communication supports which mainly promote the diffusion of a unique image. I chose to isolate the elements so that the viewer can synthesize from these fragments an image of his own.
